“How Big Is Your World” (2018) is a research assignment created to assess diversity in the film industry and develop a method to increase its growth.
In 2017, the Netherlands Film Academy initiated a research project in order to explore how they can develop the Academy to make students from all kinds of different backgrounds feel part of this environment. Therefore, we posed the central question: How diverse is the student population and staff of the Netherlands Film Academy and the Dutch creative industry in general, and what kind of strategies can contribute to diversifying the Netherlands Film Academy?
In order to answer this question, we used quantitative and qualitative research methods, that provide not only numbers or graphs, but, more importantly: experiences of students, alumni and professionals on this issue. All of this accumulated in to a 120 page study, assembled with 3 chapters.

Design elements are created by Chris Wormhoudt and Zandri Zomerdijk, where the emphasis was placed on the echochamber theory in a visualised way. Colour use showcased the optimism that we felt for the project while making it. Yes it is a problematic issue, but the pragmatic solutions we found and created give a firm manual for ANY organisation. The journey towards realisation of this project was a truthful one, it showcases an enormous insight in the landscape from multiple perspectives to create a pragmatic strategy for the Academy.
